How To Care For Your Handbag
Leather….in order to hide scratches on dark leather, add a few drops of white vinegar to a piece of cheesecloth, then apply this to the purse; using a clean and dry cloth next wipe off excess. Clear shoe cream or polish (not wax) applied every other month to a leather handbag will help give your purse a protective base. It doesn’t matter what color your purse is for this to be helpful.
Canvas….for cotton just handwash with a gentle wash like Woolite. Stuff it with something called acid free tissue (if you can find this) so it retains its shape and let your purse air dry. If there are some wrinkles as you use your handbag and fill it with items, the wrinkles will disappear. Definitely do not steam or iron…Some nylon bags with no trim will do fine just being rinsed in water and hung to dry…eliminates lots of temporary stains like coffee and/or water..
Wool and other fabrics…if there is no lining or hardware (and there usually is unless you made it yourself) you can use a regular dry cleaner.
Suede, nylon, or canvas with leather or hardware details…do not do machine dry cleaning..go to a handbag repair specialist for the best possible cleaning job. Using water and anything may leave additional stains on nylon If your handbag is not your favorite, you can test an area, but for that special handbag, professional care will keep you and your handbag a lot happier.
